Our School Library

We are very fortunate to have such a great library in our school. There is a very large selection of books from Kindergarten to Grade 9 level. All of the libraries in the Prairie Rose Division are linked through the Shortgrass Library System. This means we can share books from school to school via a delivery system.

Students in kindergarten to grade 7 have scheduled library classes where they take out books, learn library skills and have stories read to them. Grade 8 and 9 students are welcome in the library on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 11:43-12:04. Our library also has the Accelerated Reading Program available and teachers often use this in conjunction with their Language/Reading programs.

Library Highlights

We have many extra-curricular programs run through the library.

  • For grades K-6 we have 4 holiday crafts throughout the year for those who are interested. We have made edible Christmas trees, spooky Halloween mobiles, Valentines cookies, and Easter goodie bags to name just a few.
  • Every year we have two Scholastic Book fairs. These book-fairs focus on literacy in the home and school. We have contests for free books, school decorating contests, free draws and surprise visitors like Franklin or Clifford.
  • Every other year we fund-raise with an MS Readathon fundraiser. We raise money for a good cause while reading tons of books.
